A few words about "Pyxida" and the Cretan Cultural Organization.

The first edition was published in March 2002. From the very beginning a constant effort has been made to embrace anything that would be of interest to "Pyxida". To tackle matters that were being avoided, or even neglected. To help those (without any prerequisites or commitments) who have a say in their everyday lives, to actually express themselves.

The central core around which all topics are revolving is the town of Hania, while any issues raised on a global scale are also of major importance to us. A network of about twenty partners enriches the pages of "Pyxida" on a monthly basis with main columns concerning: films, ecology matters, the Internet, Mass Media, music, Rebetico music, books, creators and artists in Hania etc. Further on, in every issue there are vital local and social references. Our readers will also find a two page-long interview, of persons relating to Hania, who are taking great initiatives in one way or another, while keeping a low profile.

Along with "Pyxida" the Cretan Cultural Organization is aiming at the realization of a series of events and educational programs. For this reason, an excellent cooperation with the Olympia International Film Festival for children and young people has already been achieved and has made Hania one of the first towns hosting this event. During the academic year 2001-2002 we have succeeded in having about 3000 pupils watch the awarded films of the festival, a number which has doubled to 6000 pupils for each of the academic years 2002-2003 and 2003-2004. We also organized a four days-long session, in which selected films from the Olympia International Film Festival were shown, as part of the Summer schedule of "Kipos", the cinema of the Municipal Garden of Hania.

In cooperation with KAM, the Center for Mediterranean Architecture in Hania, we have been hosting an exhibition with the awarded works from the Annual Comics Award Competition, organized by the "9" magazine of the Eleftherotypia Newspaper.

We support music, books and culture as a whole, either by organizing or by sponsoring relevant events such as concerts, books' presentations, exhibitions, festivals etc.

For the next few months we have scheduled a whole series of actions concerning music, books and education.
